HealthCORE

Hardware Guide

Updated on

This guide is designed to help guide your equipment selection for using HealthCORE in the clinic. There are a few aspects that are critical to an optimized experience with the software, like using computers with Windows 11 and having a monitor capable of 1920 x 1080 resolution. The other choices depend on your budget and your current hardware. Please review these suggestions and let us know if you have any questions.

This guide lists recommendations for new equipment. The features may work on your existing hardware.

There are 5 major areas of the clinic to consider. This list explains the key components of each:

  • Kiosk (Check-In)
    • Check in for schedule appointments
    • Confirm communications preferences
    • Take photo for electronic record
    • Outcome assessments
  • Patient Intake (can be integrated into kiosk or be a standalone)
    • Patient history
    • Auto accident
  • Doctors
    • EHR
  • PT and Therapies
    • Therapy Log
  • Front Desk and Billing
    • Scan and Attach for paperless office
    • Scheduling and Billing

Key Characteristics of Computers for HealthCore

The most important factors to consider are operating system, RAM and processor. The size and type of hard drive are not significant for HealthCORE.

APPLE DEVICES WILL NOT WORK

CHROMEBOOKS WILL NOT WORK

  • Windows 11 (Home or Pro)
  • 8 GB RAM minimum
  • Intel i5, i7, i9 or faster processor (or AMD Equivalent)

Optimal Screen Resolution

The ideal way to experience HealthCORE is on a monitor with a minimum resolution size of 1920 X 1080. This measurement is a function of the monitor, not the computer (unless it’s a laptop or all-in-one computer). If you have existing monitors, the way to check your resolution is:

  1. Close all windows so your cursor is on the desktop
  2. Right click and choose Display Settings
  3. Verify the monitor can be set to 1920 x 1080

If you are buying new monitors, 1920 x 1080 is sometimes called "full HD" or "FHD".

Monitors that are not capable of this resolution will work, but won't show the entire program without scrolling.

Kiosk (Check-In)

Touchscreens are great for the kiosk. If you don’t have a touch screen you can use a computer with keyboard and a web cam for check-in. Because of the functions this computer performs and the way they are accessed, the specifications can be less powerful than the other computers in the office.

Get devices your patients will be comfortable with. For the check in, we recommend a standalone touchscreen computer. However, kiosk functions are all web based, so it can be a Chromebook, small laptop or a computer that patients can sit at.

The only requirements are that they run the latest version of the Chrome browser and have Internet access.

*iPads ARE NOT SUPPORTED. Android devices must use version 12 (Snow Cone) or higher.

Recommended Specifications:

  • Windows 11
  • Wireless network if a cable cannot be hardwired to the unit
  • Web camera (integrated or external)
  • Wireless keyboard for the desk, as needed
  • Touchscreen

All-in-One Options: Make sure it says "touch" in the description - lower cost devises tend not to include touchscreens

The top contenders for this entry are the Dell Inspiron or the HP Pavilion.

If you are planning to mount your check-in computer on the wall, please verify that the model you choose has that capability.

Patient Intake

New patients or those answering longer intake questions, such as those for auto accidents, may be more comfortable using a laptop. A separate laptop will also help make sure patients who are checking in, but don’t have longer questionnaires, can use the kiosk without having to wait for patients completing the longer intake questions.

Patient intake includes the following functions

  • Patient History
  • Auto Accident Questions

These Functions are ALL web-based

  • The front desk prepares the device and hands it to the patient
  • The patient enters the information and returns the device to the front desk

Recommended Specifications:

Again, get devices your patients will be comfortable with. These functions are all web based, so they can be Chromebooks, small laptops or a computer that patients can sit at.

The only requirement is that they run the Chrome browser.

*iPads ARE NOT SUPPORTED.

DOCTORS, PT, and Treatment Rooms

Recommended Specifications:

  • Windows 11
  • Intel i5, i7, i9 or faster processor (or AMD Equivalent)
  • 8GB Ram or more
  • Minimum resolution of 1920 x 1080

These computers should reflect preferences of the people using them. One choice is to put computers in each treatment room that the doctor will move to and log into separately. Another option is to use a laptop and carry it between rooms. The most important aspects are the same as other computers in the office. Focus on RAM and screen resolution. If you plan to use a laptop, consider battery life and ways to keep it charged throughout the day.

Options for laptops include the Lenovo Yoga or Surface Pro laptop (not the tablet). Most doctors prefer using a keyboard to touchscreen for EHR.

Surface GO is NOT recommended

Front Desk and Billing

Front desk and billing functions are best handled on a desktop computer with a monitor.

Recommended Specifications:

  • Windows 11
  • Intel i5, i7, i9 or faster processor (or AMD Equivalent)
  • 8GB Ram or more
  • Minimum resolution of 1920 x 1080

Scanner:

Patient identification, insurance cards and other documents can be scanned into the integrated cloud storage making it easy to reference from multiple places in the software.

These are a few scanners we recommend:

  • Xerox Documate D35 Duplex Scanner

Limited Online to purchase

May have issues scanning thick ID cards

Most scanners that use TWAIN drivers will work.

The Fujitzu ScanSnap will NOT WORK.

NOTE: The scan feature does not work on Chromebooks or with Macs.
